This August the Social Security Administration added eleven new conditions to its list of impairments that qualify for Compassionate Allowances. Compassionate Allowances is a program that allows the Agency to quickly identify individuals whose claims clearly meet the Social Security disability standard. Because of their severities, the conditions that fall under Compassionate Allowances will always meet the requirements of a disability. The goal of the program is to expedite the approval of such claims and get individuals benefits as quickly as possible. Below are the newly added conditions:
Adult Heart Transplant Wait List – Status Levels 1-4, Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome, Plasmablastic Lymphoma, Costello Syndrome, Histiocytic Malignancies, Neonatal Marfan Syndrome, Snijders Blok-Campeau Syndrome, Child Heart Transplant Wait List – Status Levels 1A/1B, Histiocytosis Syndromes, PACS1 Syndrome, Renal Medullary Carcinoma.
However, many severe and life-threatening conditions still do not fall under Compassionate Allowances but qualify for Social Security Disability under other rules. Therefore, if you hire an attorney to help you with your disability application, it is important that they are knowledgeable about both your medical condition and Social Security rules so that they can best advocate on your behalf.
